What is microwave oven radiation?
Whenever a microwave oven is turned on, radioactive energy is produced causing the water in food to vibrate rapidly. This rapid vibration produces heat, which in turn cooks the food. The energy produced by a microwave can also penetrate through living tissue, which is why exposure to this radiation is harmful to our health.
If your microwave is running with a leak, you could be exposed to harmful radiation without knowing it – microwaves are colourless and odourless, making leaks undetectable to the senses.

REST Assurance will test your microwave oven for leakage to ensure it complies with Australian standards. Our testing process includes:
- Electrical safety testing to ensure the compliancy of microwave ovens
- Power output inspection to measure the wattage of the oven, check electrical flow and magnetron functionality
- Radiation leakage inspection to measure radiation levels around the oven using a microwave specific meter
- A certification tag and barcode tag will be placed on the power lead and a detailed inspection report will be provided
